Wind Turbines
In any four season off-grid application wind turbines are highly recommended. We fly three wind turbines ourselves, and gladly share our personal experience with you. Just call us!
If you are shopping for a reliable, powerful, and simple turbine the choices are very much limited.
If you believe the various companies, and the promises in thousands of websites your choices of course are limitless...
Our Recommendation:

Primus Wind Power manufactures three different AIR wind turbines: AIR 30, AIR 40 and AIR Breeze. Each model has a built in regulator which means you do not need to purchase a separate charge controller. The AIR 30 and AIR 40 are intended for land use only but the AIR Breeze can be used on land or in marine environments.
The AIR Breeze comes with aircraft quality paint and marine grade O-ring seals to protect against harsh environmental conditions.
In order for these generators to produce their rated energy output, they need to be exposed to an average wind speed of 13 mph. The AIR 30 is designed for high wind speed areas and requires faster wind speeds to start up. For lower wind speed areas, the AIR 40 is better.
Here are some facts on this turbines:
Output:
Anything under 5 m/s (11 mph) annual average wind speed is not going to be worth-while if you want any economical benefit out of a wind turbine.
Based on a 30 meter tower (approx. 100 ft.) in a average annual wind speed location of 5.5 ms ( 12 mp/h) you are looking at a average energy production annually of plus - minus.
Air 40 & Air Breeze: - 300 - 400 kWh
Whisper 200: - 1500 - 2,240 kWh
Whisper 500: - 3700 - 4500 kWh
This is what you can expect if your wind turbine is running like advertised. In a hybrid system, together with solar this should be more than enough to keep you covered.
The main advantage of wind in an off-grid system is, extending a 4-6 hour solar window up to a possible 24 hour window and prolonging the life expectancy of your battery bank. Otherwise solar will be your best bet, because of less maintenance and overall better reliability.
