  - that would be us! - you find us on the Rosefield Grid Road at km 29

South Saskatchewan with his weather pattern, has proven to be a perfect place to test various solar and wind power products and systems we use ourselves and which we recommend and supply to our customers.

Here in the rural deep Southwest everything needs to be as tough at it gets. At TRUEWEST SOLAR all our electrical power used on the property is generated by solar and wind. We also use domestic solar hot water heating and solar air space heating systems to supplement our heating needs in the winter times.

Elevation 820 meters (2700 feet) -  In this location, small wind translates into BIG POWER.

Living in the windswept open prairies, the tower designs are somewhat different. Measuring only 30 - 65 feet in height they can sustain gusts of more then 150 mph. Higher towers up to 120 feet (40m) - as usually recommended  and used in many locations -  would not work here, as the wind generators would be exposed to too much abuse, because of the overall wind pressure. It is clear that as higher a turbine is placed, the more power it produces - but we also have to take the lifespan versus power output into our configuration.

Truewest Solar @ Rosefield .

Our business location is known as the Rosefield Church site. It receives sunshine for over 300 days a year. (lucky us). Saskatchewan's abundance of sunlight is playing a key role in our personal renewable energy schematics. Wind and solar complementing a year round home power system. Both, wind and PV are set-up and designed to absorb occasional seasonal weather extremes without stress.

See it Work - How it works!

The installed off-grid system - a synchronized 7 KW hybrid system - powers office and home. It consists of solar modules and wind turbines. Both generation sources feed a 82 KW industrial 48V deep cycle solar battery bank. A pure sine wave inverter then converts the generated DC power from the battery storage into standard AC household power. This system - as well as the different solar thermal  system solutions - can be seen in operational condition.

Pictured below is the power center located in a small powerhouse - on the right a smaller top of the pole mount PV installation is shown. In erecting a Top of the Pole mount for the PV modules, one can adjust the positioning twice a year to ensure the fullest solar potential from the traditionally low sunrises of our prairie winters.
